Un orgullo de Chimalhuacán
Resonancias de la creación prevalecen en Chimalhuacán, son los Canteros que, desde la época prehispánica, labran la piedra al ritmo que sólo ellos conocen, pues se dice que este arte lo heredaron los Toltecas a los nativos de Chimalhuacán quienes lo cuidan celosamente.
De la piedra surgen formas engendradas en la mente de los artesanos y del golpeteo incesante de cinceles en la cantera nacen melodías que se han escuchado por generaciones en éste, uno de los municipios más antiguos del Estado de México.
El labrado de piedra ha sobrevivido gracias a que se trasmite de padres a hijos, incluso en la actualidad algunos de los nuevos canteros han complementado los conocimientos heredados de su padres y abuelos, estudiando en escuelas de arte para convertirse en escultores.
Actualmente se estima que en Chimalhuacán todavía hay alrededor de 250 Canteros quienes gozan de prestigio internacional, pues su trabajo lo mismo es admirado en su tierra que en ciudades como Nueva York, París y Santo Domingo.
Ellos han sido los autores de los escudos del Palacio Nacional, la Cámara de Diputados y el Palacio de Gobierno del Estado de México y otros recintos oficiales, aunque poca gente lo sabe.

Chimalhuacán borders with five municipalities of the state: Texcoco to the north, La Paz and Nezahualcóyotl to the south, Chicoloapan and Ixtapaluca to the east and Nezahualcóyotl to the west.
This municipality counts with cultural and touristic centers, and historical monuments, museums, interesting festivities, dances and traditions. |
There are also orchestras and different musical groups, symbols of the people’s culture. The traditional gastronomy (pride of Chimalhuacán native people), is full of different saucers such as the ‘ahuautle’, the ‘mismixmole’ and the ‘tenaca envuelta’. Chimalhuacán also stands out in the region because of its local black stone handicrafts production.

The ornamental black stone products are handmade and their design and cut can be customized. You can find ‘molcajetes’, ashtrays, table bases, gargoyles, lintels, columns, capitals, images, monuments, headstones, mausoleums, sculptures, among a great variety of other stone handicrafts. |
STONE WORKERS
All the local artisans are widely qualified on their jobs. They are specialized in elaborating exclusive designs of an extraordinary quality, and to very accessible prices.

They also count with catalogues, pictures, establishments or little stores within Chimalhuacán. Plus, they offer different ordering ways that could be in bulk or by piece and they have many methods of payment. Their market is not regionally nor nationally limited, but they have created important pieces, now showing in parks and squares of the United States, Poland and in some Mexican States. |

There are fairs and expositions in many places in Mexico where you can get the best quality and the lowest priced handicrafts.
The Stone Fair takes place in October in Chimalhuacan’s main entrance, in the XXX Sports Center and it is one week long. |
